Sell Your Yarn or Donate to Yarn Saver: A Step-by-Step Guide

Do you have yarn waiting for a new home? Yarn Saver offers a simple and secure way to sell or donate your yarn stash, whether it’s part of a personal collection, estate sale, or overstock. Here’s an overview of our process so you know exactly what to expect.

Preparing Your Yarn for a New Life

To ensure a smooth process, please take a few moments to prepare your yarn before sending it to us. Yarn Saver accepts yarn in good condition, free of pests, dirt, and any strong scents. Including labels, tags, or any identifying materials for each skein helps us categorize your items correctly, especially for unlabeled yarn.

We also accept tools, needles, hooks, storage options, fiber-related merchandise like pins, bags, and much, much more!

Tip: Consider using discount shipping services like Pirate Ship or Easy Post for cost-effective mailing options.

Sending Your Yarn to Yarn Saver

Most sellers choose to ship their yarn directly to us, though we also offer a local drop-off option for Connecticut-based sellers (with prior arrangement). When mailing, don’t forget to include your name, phone number, and email so we can confirm receipt. You’ll get an email notification once your yarn arrives, and from there, we’ll handle the rest.

Inspection and Processing

Once received, your yarn goes through a thorough inspection process. This includes a freezing step to ensure all items are ready for resale. Depending on the quantity you send, the inspection process may take up to four weeks or more. We appreciate your patience as we work to preserve the quality of each skein.

Getting Your Payout

When your yarn has been evaluated, you’ll receive an email with payout options. We offer store credit, PayPal, or check payments, with different value percentages for each option. You can review the full breakdown of our payout structure on our Sell Your Yarn page. After choosing your preferred payout and confirming your payout information, Yarn Saver will finalize the process and send your payment promptly.

Clearing an Estate, Your Stash, or Your Store

Yarn Saver gladly accepts various types of yarn, including:

  • Estate Sale Yarn: Transfer a loved one’s collection to crafters who will appreciate it.
  • Personal Stash: Update your yarn inventory by selling fibers you no longer need.
  • Craft Store Overstock: Clear out extra inventory and give those yarns a new start.

If you’re unsure about the type of yarn you have, don’t hesitate to check out our terms and conditions.
